agreed to be our judge this year. Fred enjoys sharing his expertise both in the
ring, at his seminar, and through informal chats.

FOOD:
Friday night pot luck for folks who will be arriving on Friday.  Please let us
know if you will be on site Friday, so we can get a count for dinner.
Saturday and Sunday lunch: We will have a vendor available for hot dogs,
BBQ sandwiches and cold drinks. The Brownie Throwdown will be held
Saturday after lunch – Bring your best brownies; we’ll have a taste test and
judging, and winner will be announced Saturday at dinner!!!

Saturday Dinner: Our SESSA fundraising dinner! We will have BBQ
chicken, 2 sides, and a huge pan of my special cornbread. Cost for the meal,
including a drink, will be $5.00. If anyone wants to bring more sides and/or
desserts, please let me know!

LODGING: We’re excited that we are able to hold our weekend at Smoky
View Cottages again this year.  They are located in Maggie Valley, NC right
off Route 19 which is the main strip through Maggie Valley. Those who were
there last year had a great time! For those of you who stay overnight, the
cabins are close to the open area where the events will be held, and the covered
area was a wonderful place to set up for food, auctions and just good times!
They come equipped with full kitchens and linens. You only need to bring
whatever food you want, and coffee filters. I believe all the cabins have
standard Mr. Coffee coffeemakers.
The owner has agreed to a 10% discount, which will already be given when you
call to book your cabin. NOTE!: As of last week, (08/18), there were only 3
cabins left - so if you’ve put off booking your cabin, get that reservation in
now! We are in the process of locating motels/cabins in the area which are dog
friendly, to handle any overflow we may have. Please let us know if you weren’t
able to make a reservation.

To book your cabin, call Terri at Smoky View, at 1-828-926-1245, and tell
her you will be with the ‘dog show group’ coming in October. They require a 1
night nonrefundable deposit to book your cabin, to be mailed to:

DETAILS FOR SATURDAY EVENTS
Training seminar w/Mike Kerr (aka Paw Paw Mike) –Training issues,
behavioral problems, tips and ideas – bring ‘em all! I expect this to be a hands-
on type of session, having seen Paw-Paw Mike work before! Mike always has
such great advice, and instinctively knows how to handle the dogs and what
their people need to be doing!

Lunch – Either buy from the vendor, take some down time in your cabin, or
venture out to some of the great restaurants in Maggie Valley! We will be
having our "Brownie Throwdown" at lunch, so be sure to vote for your favorite
brownie!!

Doggie Games – Lilli and Legend’s owner, Kim, have promised us some fun
competition!

Auction – We did this last year in place of a raffle, and it was a huge success!!
It is the big moneymaker for SESSA; the more donations we have, the more
funds SESSA will have to hold more super events! Your auction item can be
a basket filled with whatever you like – dog items, wine, food – whatever you
think will catch someone’s eye!

Fred Lanting Show Handling Seminar – Fred has generously donated his time
to give this very instructional workshop, for those of you who will be showing
your dogs! Come and learn from ‘Mr. GSD’ himself! Even if you’re not
showing, it promises to be a wonderful event!

Saturday Dinner – Will be by the fire pit. For $5, we’ll have NC pit-cooked
BBQ chicken, 2 sides, cornbread, and a drink. Looking for volunteers to bring
desserts!!

SESSA Annual Membership Meeting – After dinner – notice time not
specified, lol! SESSA members, please attend. We will have our officer
elections, as well as discussions for future plans for our club, money making
ideas, etc. – very informal!

REMEMBER TO BRING:
Canopy/x-pen/crates: There’s not a huge amount of room around the ring or
canopies, but we did manage to squeeze a few in last year! Please remember
that the owners have requested that if you leave your dog in the cabin, they
need to be crated.
Drinks: The vendor will have drinks for sale. I’d like to ask for volunteers to
also bring coolers for ice and drinks, and bring along some extras for
yourselves! We will have our ‘all day’ coffeepot going in the firepit area, too!
Cash:
Please bring cash for the vendors and auction. We won't have
a way to accept credit/debit cards there.
Dog Supplies: Water from home for your pups, so they don’t get upset from
drinking water they’re not familiar with! The usual poo-bags, etc.

THIS N’ THAT:
Weather: It could be 80 degrees – it could be 50 degrees! Pack for warm and
cooler weather!
Site: Please remember to pick up after your dog, and yourselves.
Cabin equipment: All the cabins have stove/fridge/coffeemaker; so bring
along whatever food and drinks you’ll need to make you comfy!!

Looks like we’ll have a great crowd! I can’t wait to see old friends, and make
new ones!!!!!
